• ANALYSIS OF A PARALLEL SYSTEM WITH MAXIMUM REPAIR TIME AND SINGLE SERVER WHO APPEARS AND DISAPPEARS RANDOMLY

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to carry out cost-benefit analysis of a parallel system of two identical units with a single server who appears and disappears randomly from the system with some probabilities. There are two modes of the unit - operative and complete failure. The unit is replaced by new one with some replacement time if its repair by the server is not possible in a pre- specific time (called maximum repair time). The server cannot leave the system while performing jobs. The system is considered in up-state if at least one unit is operative. The unit works as new after repair. The distributions of random appearance and disappearance of the server, failure time of the unit and maximum repair time follow negative exponential while that of repair and replacement times of the unit are taken as arbitrary. The expressions for various reliability characteristics are derived in steady state using semi-Markov process and regenerative point technique. The numerical results for a particular case are obtained for MTSF, availability and profit function.
