• PULSATILE FLOW OF A HYDROMAGNETIC JEFFREY FLUID BETWEEN PERMEABLE BEDS

Abstract

Pulsatile flow of a hydromagnetic Jeffrey fluid between two permeable beds is analyzed. The fluid is injected in to the channel from the lower permeable bed with a velocity V and is sucked out in to the upper permeable bed with the same velocity with subjection to an imposition of a uniform magnetic field in a direction normal to the flow. The flow between the permeable beds is governed by Navier-Stokes equations and the flow through the permeable beds is governed by Darcy’s law. Analytical expressions for the velocity field and volume flux are obtained. The effects of magnetic field on the velocity fields are calculated numerically for different values of various physical parameters. It is interesting to note that the velocity decrease with increasing Jeffrey parameter in the case of some specific choice of parameters. When the permeability parameter k, Hartmann number M and Jeffrey parameter tend to zero, the results agree with those of Wang (J. Appl. Mech.38 (1971) 553).
