• EFFECTS OF THERMOPHORESIS AND VARIABLE PROPERTIES ON FREE CONVECTION ALONG A VERTICAL WAVY SURFACE IN A FLUID SATURATED POROUS MEDIUM

Abstract

An analysis is presented for the steady natural convection heat and mass transfer over a vertical wavy surface in a homogeneous Darcy porous medium with thermophoresis and variable properties included. The governing boundary layer equations for momentum, energy and concentration are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations by using an appropriate transformation and then solved by employing the Runge-Kutta method with shooting technique. A parametric study illustrating the influence of variable viscosity, variable thermal conductivity and thermophoresis parameter on the fluid velocity, temperature and concentration profiles as well as rate of heat and mass transfer is conducted. The computations in the absence of variable properties and themophoresis effects correlate accurately with the earlier published results. Increasing thermophoresis parameter strongly enhances the velocity and concentration profiles and Nusselt number where as depreciation in temperature profile and Sherwood number. The study has applications in aerosol Technology, space technology and processes involving high temperatures.
