• SURFACE ROUGHNESS EFFECT IN FINITE ELLIPTICAL JOURNAL BEARING OPERATING WITH COUPLE STRESS FLUID

Abstract


This paper is to theoretically investigate the behavior of Finite Elliptical journal bearing lubricated with non-Newtonian couple stress fluid lubricant and surface roughness. The modified Stochastic Reynold’s Equation is derived on the basis of Stokes micro-continuum theory for couple stress fluid and Christensen Stochastic theory for the rough surfaces. Closed form solution of the stochastic Reynold’s equation is derived. The importance of roughness and couple stress on bearing characteristics are presented in terms of pressure and load carrying capacity. It is observed that, effect of couple stress fluid, and surface roughness is more pronounced in Elliptical bearing than to circular bearing.
